Cooking with my Dad

Jess took some fun pictures of my dad and me cooking this evening.  I had to share them!

PS-You can kind of see the "boring-ish" work outfit I wore today.  I think you can guess what shoes I'm wearing!

The Life: My Weekend

This weekend consisted of booze, making new friends, sleeping, Mad Men, booze, making new friends, sleeping, baking, and walking along the boardwalk.  It was quite enjoyable to say the least!

Yesterday I drove to AZ to shadow some teachers this week to see if teaching is possibly something I'm interested in.  Today I looked in on a seventh and eighth grade science class.  Wednesday I'll be shadowing at the high school.  We'll see how it goes...

Here are some photographs from the weekend:

Colin's giant sandwich. We needed to refuel halfway through the three hour long walk we'd taken along the beach.

My outfit that day.

Our view from the boardwalk.

Sassy/lazy Zeena

My sister's dog, Onion, with evidence of digging all over his face.

Tomorrow I will definitely have an outfit picture up!  Today I wore boring-ish work clothes and I didn't want to document an outfit that I wouldn't be particularly excited about viewing if I were a reader.  Please forgive me!

SALE

I have been informed that some readers were unaware that The Betties was having a sale... So I figured I would remind everyone that a handful of items have been recently discounted by 20%!

Hooray for sales!

With love,

Right brain, do your thang

Music by Cocorosie

I've become a bit tired of taking the same old outfit photos everyday, and have vowed from now on to try to make the blog more of a creative outlet for me.  So tonight I present to you, my lovely readers, my very first movie!  It's not especially good, but it's definitely a start.  For those of you who know me well, you know just how difficult it is for me to master any new technology so this was a pretty big feat.  I tried to get some views of my outfit in the film; hopefully you can get a sense of what I wore today.  (Please excuse the poor quality; I used my computer's camera)

If anyone has any creative ideas for the blog, please comment with your thoughts!  I am very anxious to hear any feedback.

[][][][] So square.

This post was inspired by the first photograph in this series, which is a photo of my aunt when she was young.  I spent much of today scanning old photographs of (mainly) my aunt and her adorable outfits.  What is it about the 60s/70s that is so alluring?  Women seemed to have a newfound independence and strength during this time (likely due to the women's movement of the 60s/70s) that wasn't really there in earlier decades.  Whenever I see the characteristic yellow-tinged, sun-drenched photographs of this time I can't help but feel nostalgic.  A bit odd, seeing that I wasn't born until the late 80s.  But things seemed simpler, happier.  When I imagine this era, I see fairies and unicorns (perhaps due to hippies and their drug-induced illusions, but fairies and unicorns nonetheless).  It seemed like a time when the weird was embraced and confidence flourished.

Any readers been around long enough to remember what it was like then?  Please share, if so!

Please do not reproduce the uppermost image without permission first!  Thanks :)

under the weather

T shirt:  H&M
Romper:  Thrift store in Las Vegas
Shoes:  converse.com
Pink apples photo:  found here

Colin finally passed his cold along to me.  I was hoping I had successfully avoided getting sick for once, but alas my immune system proved that it can't resist a challenge.

One of the worst things about getting sick is having to blow your nose twice as often (or more) than usual.  I am a big proponent of avoiding blowing your nose at all costs (I hate the feeling) and find it really difficult to live comfortably while sick without blowing my nose at least once during the process.  Bluh.

Whenever I'm feeling really down, I try to put together a really happy outfit to lessen the hurt that comes with getting sick.  This romper is definitely a mood brightener!  I purchased this in Vegas and it's sooo comfortable.

Colin's making chicken noodle soup tonight (from scratch!) and I can't wait to get my hands on it...

PS-This post would taste especially great paired with the Adicolor Pink video I previously posted.  If you're new to the blog and haven't watched the video yet watch it!  I'm obsessed.
